Let’s Tell Your Story.

My name is Eric Tommer and

I’m a creative technologist.

Finding the Best Way to Tell Your Story

As new technologies emerge and older ones become more accessible, there is an ever-growing number of options to choose from as we put ourselves out in the world. By working directly with you and employing a design-thinking approach, I find the precise solutions that work best to bring your story to life. For some, that involves full-blown web solutions with continued support, and a working relationship that grows as I become more involved with the brand. For others, it can be as simple as a brief consultation to help develop the vocabulary necessary to go out into the virtual world on their own.

A Life of Documentation

I come from a family of photographers and collectors. Growing up, there are distinct memories of walking down into the basement or digging in bins under my parents’ bed and being surrounded by photographs and ephemera from their lives. As soon as I could understand the mysterious box in my hands properly, I was photographing my own life and adventures. What started as an occasional hobby would eventually develop into a personal philosophy of finding the profound beauty in the liminality of everyday life. I say that my style of photography fits best into a documentary style, although I have to admit to engaging with my subjects as I move through a space. I find that by connecting or at the bare minimum, a comfortable awareness, I can draw more sincere moments from people.

Day to Day

In my daily life, I work in higher education as a Digital Media Specialist for the University of Delaware’s Graduate College, working to support the larger Marketing and Communications team by focusing on the technology that drives our online presence. While specific details and titles of my role have changed over the years, there has been a consistent focus on enhancing the experience of our users and refining the narrative that people take as they explore our content.

My Education:

Exploring the Relationship

We Have with our Products

After obtaining my B.F.A. in visual communications, I went on to complete an M.A. in interaction design. It was there that I began exploring the interaction between technology and design. These explorations examined what it meant to interface with the world, virtual and physical.
